It’s a long long long story, but basically he became a favorite caller on a radio show (The Best Show on WFMU, yes that’s the actual name ahah), so the host would ask him to interview people he admired on the air. And the home movies interview was so funny they put it on the DVD.
Yea heroins really good (excuse my weird sense of humor). You should look for demo songs that never made it onto an album. Ill upload some on here later.
I haven’t heard of Denis Johnson but ill be searching the library for him as soon as I finish a Marcel Proust book. I have to reread every page because of the complicated writing style, its confusing.

Neutral milk hotel! I used to listen to there albums all the time and depress myself ahah. Lead belly is the man, no one beats him. Have you heard of Lou reeds pre-solo career band "the velvet underground"? Some songs are overdone hippie drug jams. But there's plenty of lovely stuff inbetween.
