Posted On 04/15/2008 10:39:32

Lately I just feel soo empty, bored of my life right now, I don't do much anymore, work and home.  I took this semester off, cuz I couldnt add classes, I'm going back next semester.  But yeah, just totally empty right now.

Cat Patrol
Posted On 03/07/2008 12:51:23

So we got a bit of a cat problem around here. I'm starting to think not only is there a cat lady (my mom) in our neighborhood our family is the "cat family". yay!

We moved to this place like in the mid 80's, there were semi feral cats that lived in the area. The next door neighbor was a old "cat lady". She died and my mom kinda took over feeding the cats. We slowly got them all fixed luckily. We currently have four cats.

Lately we've had cat guests visiting our cats. Two male cats, 1 male cat is the biggest chicken poo ever, as soon as he sees any of us, he takes off, musta been neutered. The other cat is a 'Maine Coon Cat", it's F-ing big, I call it Man Cat. I think it eats small dogs in the neighborhood. It's effectively twice as big as our own Tabby male cat, Two Fat.

Man cat doesn't fear us. The real problem is the fighting and meowing at night. I ran out of shoes to throw at em and our family is losing sleep. My mom decided to up it one.

She brought home water balloons just for the Man Cat.

So yeah now it's my job, on the 2nd floor, on the deck outside my room to go on patrol periodically and bomb Man cat.

The first patrol and I scored a direct hit. Man cat was walking under a gate and I got it from behind and it tried to jump up.

Double whammy.

Another concern of mine is the number of cats we have, and their poop + my moms fruit and vegetable garden sharing space with their poop, I already refuse to eat anything out of our garden, it's cuz of the nasty little bug Toxoplasma gondii

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gondii

I worry a little bit we are indeed a crazy cat family ;)

Would you eat stuff planted in soil known to be contaminated with mercury? or lead? Do you think my worries are unwarranted?

GPS, SA(S) and a Martha Stewart Home Tip
Posted On 08/30/2007 11:20:56

Well this was a few months ago, it's a anecdote about GPS devices and maybe social anxiety.

I was in the east bay which is part of the bay area, including San Francisco etc. I was out on the east bay picking up a car fender. I'm in a suburban neighborhood looking for the street to turn off and I think I've missed it. I saw the block before and after it on my mapquest printed page. I drive to a guy parked in his garage loading up his SUV. I ask him for directions to the street. "Do you know where said street is?" "I think it's pretty close" He has no clue, he gestures "I know" "I'll get my GPS device" Guy brings it out and starts futzing with it, types in adress and is waiitng for the GPS to find said street. Nothing, after a few more failed attempts , I motion I'm going. "I'll find it" I say as I pull out of his garage way. Half a block from his house I find the street. There arent any other streets between him and the next street. I could not believe it.Now it just occured to me while writing this that maybe he wasnt from around there. But since then I've about about our relationship with technology. I tell this story about GPS devices anytime anyone brings them up.

I now think that a test should be given to those that want a GPS device. They must know the 4 blocks that surround them. Maybe double that. This would help people looking for directions in the neighborhood and might encourage people to explore their neighborhood.

The pessimistic reality though they would just check their other GPS device or google maps for the street names. Now I'm not damning these devices, if you get lost often, they are a beneficial tool. Just be sure to familiarize yourself with the neighbor, just a little bit. I know us SA types it always isnt possible.

Now for the Martha Stewart tip of the day. I've realized the huge benefits of a relatively simple task. Dog walking. I only do it once or twice a week at most. And it's only been within a recent 2 years or so that I've done it with any regularity. I've realized its not only a good way to learn your neighborhood but see the faces of your neighborhood. Walking your dog provides a reason for you standing in front of your neighbors garage while your dog does their duty. Just be sure to clean up.

Conversations will eventually be initiated. Embrace it. The conversation will revolve around your dog! Its a easy conversations starter. No dog? Walk the kids! Walk with you friends!

The 10 commandments included the commandment "Love Thy Neighbor" well I'm no where near that level yet but something that could work just as well would be "Walk thy neighborhood"

Do thy walk tomorrow. Thy will be tid bit more happy than before thy walk.

Vh1's The Pick-Up Artist

So anyone watch this show?  I think its great! If I had a tv in my room I'd watch every episode.  OK maybe I'll wait for the DVD set or download whatever.  But wow this is what SA types need a show on "socialness" It's not just picking up chicks.  Its the art of conversation and selling yourself. Starting conversations and telling stories.  Creating bonds, creatin friends.  Helpful for both sexes with SA and any disorder that makes it hard to do these things.

I'm akward

http://youtube.com/watch?v=vvAVJTQeFiQ (for those of you who have never heard this great song)

So I went on a three day weekend vacation.

Let me fast forward.  There was a girl there who was recovering from Hodgkins lymphoma.  She's gunna be ok but for the last month and a half she's gone through treatment and lost all her hair. A pretty good scare.

One of the first conversations we have as a group was about a family member whos bit nuttty and likes to show off in his car.  Someone was talking about how many tires they go through. And I finally added "bald hmm" This girl is bald, she wears a wig.  The word echoed through my mind as I realized the sensitivty of some words. I saw her try not to respond.  That was stupid of me.

The second retard moment was around breakfast saturday morning.  My brother wanted his croissant toasted to a crisp blackness.  We were joking "How do you want your crossiant"  toasted, brown or black.  Someone added "its carbon its good for you" I of course added "It's carginogenic" She wasnt in the conversation but was right there.  "How to alienate others and yourself in the process" by FreakCitySF, look for it on the bestseller list.

I will miss coral reefs and the rainforest
Posted On 08/07/2007 11:52:44

And I'll miss 4 legged frogs, polar bears, Kauai cave wolf spiders, yangtze river dolphins, dodo bird, tasmanian tiger, there were a few of my favorite things.

Some are gone, some are almost gone.

They once lived with us but disappeared over time.

I have this fantasy someone in the oval office dies.  And his successor also dies.  Someone with realistic human goals decides to enact emergency laws.  Laws that would limit the sales of cars. Laws that would limit the spread of walmart, mcdonalds, around the world.  Laws that would benefit all of us as well as everyone else that shares this place we call earth.

Silent Spring changed the way we thought about pesticides. Quoted from wikipedia "Its title was meant to evoke a spring season in which no bird songs could be heard, because they had all died from pesticides."

A documetary on the overwhelming evidence of global warming and we are still draggin our feet seems.

What would it take? A few more animals gone forever? Rainforest gone? Coral reefs gone?

I wish the worlds richest copororations and individuals would do more.
