procrastinating in any way possible. this generally includes wikipedia and the crime library. finding new music via pandora.com. reading random blogs. books. movies. magazines. the norm, i guess.

eternal sunshine (and most of what charlie kaufman writes), beautiful thing, royal tenenbaums, lost in translation (a perfect movie), christopher guests' films, happiness (hell yea todd solondz)...i can't think right now, i'll come back to this!

jeff buckley, sufjan stevens, massive attack, gorillaz, rufus wainwright (first three albums), neutral milk hotel, pixies, the smiths, leonard cohen, lou reed, this list is virtually endless...

mainly prose fiction, though i'm open and there are always exceptions. salinger (any and all), a confederacy of dunces, hemmingway's short stories (specifically 'hills like white elephants'), denis johnson (jesus' son, angels), david sedaris, augusten burroughs, malcom gladwell (specifically 'blink'), the nimrod flipout, JONATHAN SAFRON FOER (if you haven't read 'everything is illuminated,' please, please, please go get it! you will thank me later), mordecai richler, slouching towards bethlehem (amazing collection of essays by the always wonderful joan didion), etc, etc...

intelligence, nerdiness, a fantastic (and f'd up) sense of humor, absurdity, archness, an appreciation for irony, acceptance of my shortcomings (psychological and otherwise), inexperience and/or an acceptance of mine, humility, intellectual curiosity, kindness, selflessness (but not to the point of being a pushover), etc, etc...

arrogance, pretension, a need to fit in/impress the crowd, any adherence to an implied social hierarchy, ignorance (blind or otherwise), hate for its own sake, phoniness, etc, etc...

i'm currently a college junior in MA and an intern for my favorite magazine. i'm new to this site, but happy to have found it. SA controls my life (albeit quietly, as i'm fairly certain those closest to me don't know the extent to which i suffer) and it's getting worse. at this point, i wouldn't feel comfortable meeting any of you in person, but finding people who can relate, even virtually, is a small (and welcome) relief.

Oh don’t worry about it. Yea I’m a wee bit obsessive when it comes to art and entertainment. You also have a wide range of preferred “consumable popular culture” (I just wanted to use that phrase).

It’s a long long long story, but basically he became a favorite caller on a radio show (The Best Show on WFMU, yes that’s the actual name ahah), so the host would ask him to interview people he admired on the air. And the home movies interview was so funny they put it on the DVD.

Yea heroins really good (excuse my weird sense of humor). You should look for demo songs that never made it onto an album. Ill upload some on here later.

I haven’t heard of Denis Johnson but ill be searching the library for him as soon as I finish a Marcel Proust book. I have to reread every page because of the complicated writing style, its confusing.
