Hey everyone =) My name is Drew and I've had Social Anxiety Disorder for as long as I can remember, so I'll venture to say my entire life. It has been a real uphill battle for me with a lot of internal pain and external struggles, but things have been getting a lot better for me the past couple of months... so at this point I can't complain too much = )
As would be expected, I am very quiet with people I don't know very, very well and hate being the center of attention in any way, shape, or form. It has been hard for me to make and maintain friendships due to my SA alienation issues, so I have very few friends - something I'm hopeful will change sooner than later as I am a fun-loving girl who loves to go out and have a great time when my SA isn't acting up too much.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and graduated in May from New York University with a B.A. in Sociology. Right now I'm working from home for my best friend's financial services company. It gives me a lot of freedom, pays the bills, and lets me avoid people when I want to hehe ; ) But, it's not in a field for which I'm passionate, and I think if you want to be truly happy in life you need to follow your passions.
What I do have a personal passion for is the law/criminal justice/prison reform. I'm going to be doing a post-baccalaureate Paralegal program starting in February. Then, if I can get my SA under as much control as humanly possible, going to law school would be my ultimate goal. Either way, I would love to work for The Innocence Project which works to exonerate wrongfully convicted prisoners or work in some way for court system and prison reform.
My hope is that I am able to take control of this anxiety which has been holding me back from truly enjoying and getting the most out of life. I would also really love to talk to and become friends with people who understand what it's like to have SAD.
If anyone wants to talk, feel free to message me on AIM or MSN.
Your Social Anxiety Level: 60%
You have moderate social anxiety.
It's possible that you have a serious social anxiety problem. But it's also likely that you can help yourself, by getting out more and trying new, scary activities. No one's secretly judging you. So be yourself, and if you screw up, just laugh.
