81: Power Outage
Posted On 07/07/2008 01:08:06 by millenniumman75

Around 11:15pm, I noticed that my fluorescent light bulb n my room was flickering a lot.  I looked at it and thought....maybe I need a new bulb.  Nothing looked odd except the bulb.  Well, I went downstairs and all of a sudden, the lights went off, but the TV, microwave, and oven stayed flashing in the kitchen.  I heard a strange noise coming from outside and foudn it to be my air conditioner that could not start up due to the lack of power!  Noticing the volume, I walked my way back in the dark to the thermostat and turned the A/C off.  I couldn't see in the dark and struggle to find my handcrank LED flashlight I bought last Christmas.  Thinking it was a circuit, I went to the basement.  Everything was ON though.  There should not have been a problem.

I decided to check outside next.  The neighbor to the east had gone to bed.  The neighbors to the west had their lights on.  A couple of minutes later, I noticed the bright lamp at the barn two houses east of me went out.  That light is always on, even in the rain!

Going to the front of the house, I walked out and noticed that the lamps were all strangely dim.  I heard police sirens just then.  Maybe there was an accident.  I walked back to the TV, and watched for a few minutes and then everything went dark.  The entire neighborhood was pitch black.  I took the flashlight, went upstairs and took a shower.  There's nothing more eerie than listening to a battery-powered radio and taking a shower with the flashlight pointed in my direction.

I then made my way back down (two floors) to the basement to get my clothes.  Upon returning to the main floor, the power came back on.  It was out for an hour.  No clue. *shrug*

Now all those people with electric alarm clocks are going to get up late after the long weekend. :(
