hmmmm therapy??
Posted On 07/06/2008 06:52:31 by leomouse

i was looking for some anxiety support groups in my area and i actually found a therapist, she had her pic posted and looks young so i don't know if she would be good in treating SA, but i'm thinking of giving it a shot, she even offers discount rates, her normal price is 100$ per session but she has a few spots from 20-60$. i'm scared to do it but i was thinking about it for a loooong time, but does therapy even work? did anyone here try any type of therapy for SA, if so let me know if it's really worth it k!

I went for 3 months and it didn't do crap. If u really want to get better, i think u need to see a therapist for at least a year to see improvements. It's not a quick fix.

Hi Marta,

I would definately try some of the anxiety support groups.  I have gone to some local ones by me and everyone was so nice there.  Everyone is going through same difficulties.  The shyness group here has some study sessions and some social activities.  It was hard to go to the first one, but I was glad that I went later on.

I've tried the therapist before, but that didn't really help me much though.  I still go about once a month, but I haven't made any progress.  We are going to try some anxienty medicines and I report back every month that the last medications didn't help any.  :)  There is no way it can hurt to talk to a therapist, so you should try it anyway.

Take Care,

John

You should probably find out if she has experience treating SA.

I went to a therapist for 11 months and saw little progress, so I fired him. I then found a clinic that specializes in shyness issues. So far I like what they are doing a lot better, as it is a much more focused, concrete approach (Cognative-Behavioral).

After the first couple months (and thereafter) you should evaluate the progress you have made and how the therapist is helping you. Don't be afraid to cut things off and try to find someone else if you are not making any progress.

I've only talked to counselors about it and I can definitely say that that doesn't work...there has to be some practical aspect to the therapy
