The new SAF
Posted On 06/17/2008 09:29:35 by Ashley

I've got to say I love the way the new SAF looks!  As I said in my last blog, I'm a big advocate of change.  But..(and this may sound dumb so forgive me) it sort of creeps me out that there are all these links to external social sites like Digg and Facebook.  It just seems like people with SA wouldn't want their blogs to be submitted to all these different places by any number of people.  I know we're submitting blogs here to the SAF community, but there is a comfort in knowing that the people reading the blogs are probably going through something similar or have been there before.  I have a Facebook account, as well as Digg and MySpace, but I use those for entirely different purposes than this site.  My blogs on those sites are entirely different from my blogs here.  I guess it's stupid, but I kind of felt like SAF was my own little haven.  It just feels like it's not as safe for me to post my day to day feelings on my SA anymore.  At the same time, I realize the site wants to grow and this new site is a great step in that direction.  I just really wanted to get that out..not hating on the new site, just wanted to put this out there to see what others think.

I have to say i agree completely. I realize that realisitcally very few people are going to be looking around for this site, but there is a certain amount of safety, real or not, in allowing these blogs to be submitted. The thing is that google wont necessarly crawl these pages if you tell it not to. I dont think it's inevitable that these blogs get out. I'm just saying that a lot of people see this place as kind of a sanctuary and I'd hate to see that dissapear.

the thing about digg is, once someone submits your blog as an article, it shows up as the first entry of "upcoming stories".  so no one has to do a search on SA to stumble upon your entry.  i'm not worried, and don't really think many people will be submitting these blogs to digg..after all, these blogs aren't the sort of thing that make it on that site anyway.  however, if someone wants to, all they have to do is click submit, and for a moment in time, your blog will be on the front page of upcoming stories.  just a thought.

"normals" haha. I'm more concerned of people i know, who arn't aware of my SA, finding my blogs. I like to keep my SA to myself. So thats why my screename on here is different from my e-mail and myspace screen names. So if a friend of mine types my IM screen name into google, it won't pop up with all my SA stuff. Thank goodness! Phew!

I agree with Thunder... nothing on the net is totally private anyway but I seriously doubt that anyone that doesn't have an interest in SA would even bother looking up SA related things, including blog entries.

As Thunder said... don't panic

Google is going to get it no matter what, submitted or not. Anyone who does happen to find it at Digg will likely be searching for it, it's not like we're going to have normals gawking at us.

Don't panic.
