Progressive evening
Posted On 07/22/2007 06:17:27 by Amocholes

Last night was fun. I went to a progressive dinner. It started with h'ordouevers at David's. He lives on the top floor of a very nice apartment building, overlooking a large part of Dayton. The view off his balcony is amazing.

We then moved on to Mark & Larry's for the main course. Roast chicken and stuffing, corn on the cob and coleslaw. I had a nice chat with Tatsu and Greg. They're kind of a May-September couple. Tatsu is a 22 yo college student with a lot going for him. Greg is 54, witty and highly intelligent. They compliment each other very well.

Next it was on to Jerry's for pie and ice cream.

It was a lovely evening. Good company, good food and lots of laughs.

Sounds like you had a fun evening. I've never been to a progressive dinner before, but it sounds very interesting!

A progressive dinner works like this:

Someone hosts each leg of the dinner. people who will be attendind are assigned a host to help. I was assigned h'ordouvres and brought some cucumber sandwiches with cream cheese and smoked salmon. Everyone showed up and we ate and had a few drinks, mostly non-alchololic since we would be driving.

We then headed to the main course, which was warming in the oven. That host also had helpers who brought the coles slaw and corn. After a leasurely meal and some relaxed conversation, we headed on to dessert.

The host provided ice cream and various toppings and his helpers brought the pies.

All in all it's a fun way to heave a dinner party. We had about 20 attending.

Sounds like a nice evening, but I don't think I would want to have to travel between courses. Did the people who cooked stay home or did they go around eating too or was it just you going around eating?
