Private profiles? Why?!

Why do people set their profile to private? 

Since i cant make a poll about this, ill just write this and wait for answers. Here are the choices:

1) They want attention

2) They want privacy

3) They want to add more friends to their list

4) They dont want any more friends ( i mean how can i decide to or not to add someone to my friends without seeing their profile)

5) They are agents, and they dont want anyone to see the top secret info on their profiles.

6) They are too shy

7) Other

 

I really dont get it, can someone please explain?

I am leaning towards option #3, cause whenever i sent a friends request to someone with a private profile, it is always accepted, though they dont know me.

i log in here from work and im paranoid a co-worker or something will find my page and spy on it. plus, i want to prevent other people whom i dont want to see my page from viewing it, the best way is to keep track of who can and who cant through my friends list.

It's privacy.  Some of the members here had a not-so-great experience at one point and feel they are better off having Friends only view them.  Others are afraid the wrong people will find out. :(

I think privacy or too shy.  I don't think it's that big of a deal.. though it can be annoying if someone comments on my bloggie and I can't comment back :)

I made my profile private:

because there those trolls that keeps sending me mean messages, and that is annoying. I was a chat moderator and no longer am one, and I do not want anything to do with that battle between the admins and the ones who are banned from the site. just so much drama.

Just my 2 cents but I think they just want privacy. If you have your profile set as public, I believe that the search engines index it and some people don't want that.
