Man Fired While Seeking Help for Suicidal Urges
Tuesday August 26, 2008
An Ohio man who was fired when a co-worker took him to an emergency room after he confessed to having suicidal urges is now suing his former employer, according to a report in the Cincinnati Enquirer.
The man, identified only as "John Doe", was director of business development at Knowledgeworks, an non-profit organization in the Cincinnati area.
In his lawsuit, filed on August 22 in Hamilton County, he said his employer was aware of his depression. According the documents filed, he had gone to a park in April with a gun with the intention of committing suicide, but changed his mind and continued on to work, where he asked two co-workers for help. One of the co-workers then drove him to the emergency room. While he was there, Patty Conley, Knowledgeworks' chief operating officer, called his wife and informed her that her husband had been dismissed.
The suit seeks to have the man reinstated to his job with back pay and compensatory and punitive damages.

The boss was not thinking wisely. He probably thought, "I will fire him because he could flip out and kill me too."
However, the boss could have been a real hero and he would have helped every single one of his employees.
He should have said, "That's great that you came back to work and I am so proud of you for being truthful. I am extremely grateful to the two employees who reached out to help a fellow worker!I am glad to have all three of you as part of my work force. Thank you!"
Instead, the boss is going to get sued and lose face with all his workers.

That's horrible. I hope he gets everything he's suing for, but think he deserves even more. That boss is an a** who needs to be fired himself. Asking for help is NOT an easy thing to do & no one should ever be punished for doing it.

I cannot imagine why he would want his job back? It seems to me, after their wrongful treatment, that after suing he should make it enough to enjoy his life he decided to save. What a rediculous bunch of people, obviously our world has become very atrocious.

That is ridiculous. This is why I work for small companies with reasonable, understanding bosses. Life is too short to be treated like a machine, even at a higher salary.
