Struggle with moderate social anxiety. Would like to talk with others who have this difficulty. I have learned to manage it fairly well, but still have bad days. Would especially like to meet someone special who understands this.

Hi Kelly,

It seems to be common for people to not understand the difference between Avoidant Personality Disorder, (AvPD), and Social Anxiety.  You mentioned that is was unclear to you as well in the comment you left on my profile .  I have read quite a bit about both which hardly qualifies me as an expert, but I think that the major differences between the two is a matter of degree in intensity of the anxiety; of magnitude.  I think the people with AvPD tend to be much more isolated from people and I think this is due to a higher level of anxiety, yet that does not seem to be a hard fast rule.  People with SA will often have outright severe panic attacks which is something I have never experienced.

Anyway, thanks for the comment and it is a subject that is food for thought and worthy of contemplation.

Yours in SA / AvPD - Chuck S

HI Kelly!

Welcome to SAF! It looks like you are relatively new here so I hope your experience is a pleasant one. It has been for me. I read your post that was in response to one I made and I am in a similar way in regards to making small talk with strangers. Stay in touch ! ~~~ Chuck
